Arts Place Presenting Writing Workshops at Wright State University Lake Campus

 Arts Place is presenting two free writing workshops as part of the Innovations program.  The workshops will be held monthly at Wright State University Lake Campus beginning in September.  Registration forms, which are available at Arts Place, will be accepted in person or by mail at both facilities.  In St. Marys, registrations may be dropped off at the Collective Center, 138 East Spring Street.  Electronic versions of the registration brochure are available online at www.artsland.org.  For more information contact Arts Place at 260-726-4809 or 419-394-0707.

 

Memoirs Writing Course

Participants will be introduced to the basic elements of memoir writing: how to define an engaging and credible persona as the writer, how to focus and structure a memoir, how to develop topics within that structure in order to sustain interest, and how to make the writing consistent (and readable). Participants will be given some constructive feedback on their writing by the instructor and other participants.  Registration is required and space is limited.

 

The Memoirs Writing Course will meet the second Tuesday of each month from 7-8:30 p.m. at Wright State University Lake Campus, 7600 St. Rt. 703 in Celina, Ohio.  The workshops are free.  Class dates will be: September 14, October 12, November 9, December 14, January 11, February 8, March 8, April 12, May 10, and June 14

 

Poetry Workshops - Participants will be introduced to some of the elements of poetry writing, provided with models for discussion, and given some constructive feedback on their own work by the instructor and other participants. The materials will be adjusted, as much as possible, to the skill levels of the majority of the participants.  Registration is required and space is limited.

 

Poetry Workshops will meet the first Tuesday of each month from 7-8:30 p.m. at Wright State University Lake Campus 7600 St. Rt. 703 in Celina, Ohio.  The workshops are free.  Class dates are: September 7, October 5, November 2, December 7, February 1, March 1, April 5, May 3, and June 7.

The 2010 Riverside Bluesfest is St. Marys, Ohio's big Labor Day weekend event. Two days of fantastic blues music attracts an audience from a six-state area and beyond to beautiful K.C. Geiger Park, situated between the Miami-Erie Canal and the St. Marys River. The festival venue is a six-acre corner of the park called "Riverside" where a stage near the river faces a large hillside viewing area.
The 2010 Riverside Bluesfest line-up of talent features hot acts from all over the country and Ohio's best blues bands. The Chris Duarte Group (Austin TX), Nick Moss and the Flip Tops (Chicago), Shane Dwight (Nashville), The Sean Carney Band (Columbus), The Jimi Vincent Band (Mansfield), The Sonny Moorman Group (Cincinnati), The Sugar Thieves (Phoenix AZ), The Hipsters (Lima) and Ray Fuller and the Bluesrockers (Columbus) have been booked at this printing, with one band to be announced. Past Riverside Bluesfest performers include Joe Bonamassa (2007), Elvin Bishop (2008), Lil' Ed and the Blues Imperials (2009) and Tommy Castro (2009).
Besides great live music, the Riverside Bluesfest features a wide variety of food/soft drink vendors and street-fair merchandise vendors. The musicians sell CDs and tee shirts, and they sign autographs after each performance. Beer, wine coolers and wine will be on sale inside the venue.
2010 Riverside Bluesfest tickets are on presale now at www.TicketWeb.com, also linked at our web site www.stmarysblues.com. Select west-central Ohio area businesses will also have tickets for over-the-counter sale beginning Memorial Day weekend; watch the web site for locations. Children 12 and younger are admitted free with a paying adult. No weapons, coolers, alcohol, recording devices or pets (except service animals) may be brought into the venue. Please bring a lawn chair or blanket; seating is not provided.
The annual Riverside Bluesfest is a non-profit community event hosted by the K.C. Geiger Park Committee, and staffed by the St. Marys Blues Guild and more than 200 local volunteers. Women in Business Luncheon will be held Thursday, September 9, 2010 at 11:30 am. The location of the meeting is The Dicke Hall at Wright State University Lake Campus, 7600 Lake Campus Dr., Celina. September's meeting will feature Dr. Sharon Showman Ph.D focusing on how generation and gender can help a business succeed.

Don't forget the optional tour of the newly renovated campus immediately following the meeting. Hopefully you have the time to take this tour. It should be interesting.

Lunch will be catered and costs $10.00.  You are welcome to bring a guest, just add them when you RSVP.  Don't forget to reserve your seat by this Friday, September 3, 2010 so we make sure to get a correct count to the caterer.

The first annual Civil War at the Fort will take place at the Ambassador Park in Fort Recovery, Ohio.  There will be living history and reenactments that have skirmishing and battles on all three days with Friday a school day. Live artillery demonstration, night fire, military ball, payroll, parlor games, ladies tea and a Saturday baseball game.  Hay, straw, wood and an evening meal will be provided for participants only.  Modern facilities and electrical hook-ups are on site.  There are no registration fees for participants, although, pre-registration is required.  This show will take place rain or shine.

Annual Wapak Wing Fest 2010

330Wapakoneta – The Ninth Annual Wapak Wing Fest, “Northwest Ohio’s Original Wing Competition,” will be held Saturday September 25th at American Legion Post 330.

This year’s event includes the P.T. Works Co-ed Sand Volleyball Tournament which kicks off the day at 9:00 a.m.  Pre-registration is suggested but not required.  A $60 entry fee is required for a six-person volleyball team.  Prizes will be awarded to the top two teams.  The American Legion Riders are also sponsoring a Poker Run, with registration at 11:30 a.m. and first bike out at 1 p.m.  For more information contact Terry Opperman at 419-738-3751 or Dale Bush at 419-738-3997. 

The vendor fee for the chicken wing competition is $125 per contestant.  A five-person panel will judge contestants in the following categories: flavor, sauce, tenderness and uniqueness.  First prize will be $600, Second Prize $400 and the People’s Choice award winner will receive $200.  Each winner will also receive plaques commemorating their Wapak Wing Fest performance.  Vendors will be open for food service at Noon and the winners will be announced at approximately 8:00 p.m.

Other featured events include a live music performance at 8:00 p.m. by Cincinnati’s Dangerous Jim and the Slims (www.dangerousjimrocks.com).  Live music will be playing throughout the course of the day and College Football will be available all day on big screen TVs.

Join us for Saturday afternoon jams once a month from 1 to 3:30 pm. We’ll
